The Occasion: Our First Anniversary
I can't believe that exactly one year ago today, I met Christopher. Cliché as it is, time does fly!
It was on a chilly May evening that I primped and prepped for my first date ever. I remember lying to my parents about my evening plans. To them, it was just another Friday night dinner with my best friend, Rosie. I mean, I didn't want to jinx anything ;)
Sitting across a wobbly wooden table set for two, we dined at a local gastropub. I remember every detail, down to what Chris ordered on the menu (bacon mac and cheese). Together, we dove into conversation, each careful with our words until slowly we began to feel more comfortable with one another.
This was the first of many dates to follow, a story that had just begun to be written, another page in a scrapbook full of many memories that we would soon create together. Just a boy from the Manitoba prairies and a nervous girl with braces.
Cue adventures around the city, birthdays, date nights to see Italian films, holidays, and even a long distance stint, here we are. I am truly grateful for every moment that we have experienced this past year.
So, this milestone #firstanniversary called for a celebratory dinner!
The Location: Saucy
Located in the heart of #Streetsville, Saucy is the perfect restaurant for date night. With it's intimate setting and delectable selection of appetizers, entrées, and desserts, this is one of Streetsville's treasures.
Classy and elegant, Saucy also boasts an impressive bar menu, complete with cocktails, wines, ales, and liqueurs.
The portions are also extremely generous. I usually end up taking half my dinner home with me! Just another reason why this place is a unique and well-worth-it alternative to a traditional steakhouse.
The Menu
Appetizer: Short Rib Tacos
After much contemplation, Chris and I decided to share these savoury tacos. I always know something will taste good by Chris' reaction once he takes his first bite out of something. With eyebrows raised, his eyes light up and his lips crease at the sides into a smile.
Man, oh man, these tacos were gooooood! Tender shredded beef paired with the tang of pickled onions and elevated with a creamy horseradish sauce, these tacos were incredible.
Honestly, my mouth is watering just thinking about them!
Entree: Schnitzel and Beef Stroganoff
I ordered the schnitzel, a breaded and fried chicken cutlet, served with a Dijon mushroom sauce and assorted seasonal vegetables. It was to die for. After I took my first bite, I could not put down my fork!
Chris had a pasta craving and opted for the beef stroganoff instead. Flank steak atop creamy linguine mixed with onions, mushrooms, and pickles to surprise the palate, the dish was a hit!
But, a dinner can only be considered great if dessert is enjoyed. Who doesn't want to end things on a sweet note?!
Dessert:
Chef's Special, Butter Tart Cheesecake with Raspberry Compote
Chris is a sucker for cheesecake. It's his go-to dessert option anytime we go out to eat. Although I am sensitive to dairy, I am a sucker for anything butter tart. Naturally, the combo of the two could only mean one thing: we had to share a piece!
We were both pleasantly surprised to find that the cheesecake was not overly cheesy. Chunks of butter tart sent sweetness dancing along our tastebuds. The raspberry compote also added a refreshing and much needed tartness to the decadent cheesecake.
Final Thoughts
Saucy is the place for an intimate and unforgettable dining experience. Whether you are with a group of friends or just a couple looking for the next date night bite, this restaurant does not disappoint.
Between the regular menu and the chef's daily specials, I am always pleased with the delectable plates. Likewise, the serene and cozy atmosphere of Saucy is also what elevates the overall dining experience.
I can't wait to share many more milestone moments here!
